Distinction Your techniques portfolio is complete and explains the techniques giving examples and discusses how they have developed from the Early pioneers. (M)
Your timeline overall has some explanation of the techniques and how they have developed, with reference to films and specific examples and at times their purpose. However the impact of this on contemporary editing is underdeveloped in how Tarantino or Nolan use these techniques for stylistic purposes. You need to focus on the purposes more clearly for your video guide (M)
The development of techniques has been discussed in relation to the Pioneers and gives examples from contemporary and modern cinema. Confusion over transitions and cuts. There is application to the clips to explain purpose. There is comparison of soviet Montage and that used in Music Videos as well as argument about the stylist use of alternative techniques as opposed to political purpose. Distinction
P2, M2, D2 Pass Most steps have been followed to a standard approaching professional practice working independently within a realistic time constraint. The screen grabs of digitising footage into 3 bins per scene, logging the clips, reviewing the rushes. The preparation is mostly complete, however the lack of a Final Cut generated EDL or editors log to demonstrate competence to a Merit level of understanding why preparation for editing is necessary.
P3, M3, D3 Merit The thriller narrative sequence has been edited to produce a preliminary rough cut, then a highly proficient 5 minute short film. The opening attempts nonlinear but unclear and sound needs to be balanced. Stings are not synched effectively and the chase is too brief to build the mood. Later this is better and there is some foley used. Continuity is generally strong and techniques such as match on action and 180 deg rule are followed with some flair. Some creativity in the use of slow motion. The edit was completed to a realistic timescale under controlled conditions and you worked in a manner approaching professional standards.
