Task 1c - Purposes of music videos - Individual

The purpose of a music video is to promote for artists and sell it to your target audience so in the near future, the audience will remember them for their ground-breaking video that was uploaded on YouTube and will remain a fan of the music and artist in general.

Putting the video on YouTube will help to promote the artist, as their video will go viral and the whole world will be able to view it and see the artist. The promotion of the artist is extremely important in a music video for the success of both the artist and the record label that produce their music videos. If the artist is major, then it is much more important.

Selling the song, invoke a reaction from the audience:

Some music videos are designed mainly for this purpose, being used often, for new upcoming music artists to

By doing this, it also generates more money for the artist themselves and more importantly the record company who will produce their music videos.

Giving the audience a a better understanding of the song:

Often, songs have a meaning. The music videos are often used to develop the meaning behind the song and use a approach to give the audience a better understanding of the song from a visual perspective, this means that the music video is almost like a film and the music is like a backing track on soundtrack to the film. The video is what has become the main focus to the audience, quite often, particularity in a younger audience, some members of that audience will judge the song on the music video, meaning that if the music video is bad and the audience members are uninterested, then they will probably not be interested in listening to the song.

Product Placement:
Product Placement is used in almost all Entertainment outlets as a way to increase their revenue and profits they will gain through audience and product placement. This is particularly the case in music videos. For instance, a music video by a major artist such as Nicki Minaj will feature an example of product placement, such as she could use a product in her video such as headphones, showing off the brand of the headphone will advertise it, meaning that the record label will be paid by the company of the headphones for them to use the headphone for advertising in the video, this makes money and profits for both parties involved.

Product placement is an example of a way to monitise the music video.

Synergy:
Often, artists will write songs that are specifically made for film, the music videos for these songs will then feature a variety of shot scene from the film to go with the video or use backdrops or sets that will show the story or the locations that will be in the film. As the music video will be shown on a variety of different platforms, they will be using synergy, this would be because the music video will be on, TV, I Tunes, YouTube an many more, the song will be shown through a variety of platforms, this is also a promotional technique.
